ICAN during COVID-19
With the traditional afterschool program closed during the crisis, ICAN continues to support youth and their families in other ways. The ICAN Kraft Kit is a complete kit that includes family-friendly activities that promote ICAN’s emphasis on the 5C’s of Positive Youth Development: competence, connection, contribution, character and confidence. It is vital for families to continually receive resources during this crisis – resources that promote well-being and provide tools to parents and youth to encourage coping skills and resilience. Many of ICAN’s families do not have internet access and have limited access to laptops and other technology to complete activities virtually. ICAN’s kits are printed activity sheets, along with any supplies needed (crayons, glue sticks). The team distributed 100 kits the first week and they were so well received that production has now increased to 500 kits a week, reaching over 1,800 people. They are being distributed by ICAN staff in conjunction with Chandler school’s lunch/dinner for families in need. ICAN’s traditional program is focused on prevention and life skills – which are greatly needed at this time. The resources ICAN is providing promote well-being and provide tools to parents and youth to encourage coping skills and resilience. Click here to donate to ICAN and support this effort.
